Variants are now managed on the product page
By Steven Van ·
Plus merchants can try the new variant editor in Test Drives now, with automatic opt-in on December 12 and a wider rollout starting in December.
Variant management in the Shopify admin now sits on the product page instead of a separate variant page, according to a Shopify changelog entry. Shopify says the rest of the product details stay in view while variants are edited, so there is no switching between product and variant pages and no losing your place.
What changed
- Editing on the product page: variants are edited directly on the product page.
- Finding and organizing: variants can be searched, filtered, and grouped by option. A detail view and a table view are available, and the table view is meant for quick editing.
- Bulk edits: core fields such as price and shipping can be changed across several variants at once.
Shopify says the updates are designed to make product management simpler as a catalog and its variant count grow.
Availability
Merchants on Plus and higher plans can activate the feature now in Test Drives. They will be opted in automatically on December 12. The rollout to all merchants begins gradually in December, and the change arrives in the admin on its own with no setup needed. Shopify links a blog announcement and a help doc for more detail.
