Schedule and test catalog changes with Rollouts

By Steven Van ·

Rollouts can now activate, deactivate or swap catalogs on a schedule, test offers between them, and ship alongside theme and checkout changes.

Shopify Rollouts now supports catalog changes, so product availability and pricing can be scheduled per market. Catalogs can be prepared ahead of a promotion or seasonal launch, with a date and time chosen for when they go live, according to the Rollouts documentation.

What catalog rollouts can do

  • Schedule catalog changes: activate, deactivate, or switch between existing catalogs at a set date and time.
  • Test different offers: run experiments between catalogs on your online store.
  • Launch changes together: schedule catalog changes to go live alongside theme and checkout updates in a single rollout.

How rollouts work

A rollout is a scheduled set of changes to the main theme, checkout and accounts pages, discounts, product catalogs, or a combination of these. Rollouts are created and managed from the Markets Rollouts page in the Shopify admin. Changes can apply permanently or for a set period only.

There are three types. A Launch merges changes into the store permanently. An Event publishes changes for a set period, then rolls them back. An Experiment compares a treatment against a control, so the impact of changes can be measured before a full Launch. After a rollout runs, its analytics can be reviewed to compare it with the live store.

Shopify's help documentation lists the requirements for using rollouts, including plan availability and the permissions staff need.
