Shopify rebuilds its mobile app with a native design system
By Steven Van ·
The iOS and Android apps launch faster, and Android launch time is cut by more than half.
The Shopify mobile app for iOS and Android has a new native design. Marvin Schwaibold, design director at Shopify, posted it on October 30, 2026 and called it the biggest design facelift the app has had.
What the two posts name
Schwaibold's post says the rebuild ships smoother gestures, more consistent interactions, fluid animations, and haptics, together in a new native design system. He says more is coming, and that the team rebuilt one of Shopify's largest apps while keeping merchants moving.
Mustafa Ali, director of engineering and head of mobile at Shopify, posted the same day. He says the app was rebuilt from the ground up in native for iOS and Android, with a fresh design, smoother interactions, and Liquid Glass on iOS. He also says it launches faster on both platforms, and that Android launch time was cut by more than half. Neither post names an app version or a rollout date.
The video on Schwaibold's post shows the new home screen. A card in that video reads Mobile got a facelift. Store names and percentages on the screen are part of the demo.
