Local delivery orders in Shopify POS

Available on POS Pro with app version 11.16 or later, and it changes which staff permissions are needed to fulfill local delivery orders.
Staff can now create local delivery orders at checkout in Shopify POS, so a customer who can't take an item home can have it delivered in the same sale. Staff no longer need to ask them to reorder online or leave notes on the order. Shopify describes the change in its changelog.
Local delivery uses the delivery zones and rates already set up for the online store. When shipping is added to a cart and the customer's address falls in a delivery zone, local delivery appears with the other shipping rates. Staff select it, confirm the customer's phone number, add any delivery instructions, and check out. The delivery address and fee show in the cart, on the receipt, and on the customer-facing display. The order can then be prepared and fulfilled in POS, the same way as local delivery orders from the online store.
Things to know
- Permissions: creating these orders requires Create shipping and delivery orders (previously Ship to customer). Fulfilling them now requires Fulfill shipping, pickup, and delivery orders (previously Fulfill shipping and pickup orders). Staff could previously fulfill local delivery orders without this permission, so Shopify advises reviewing staff roles and adding the fulfillment permission for anyone who needs it.
- Fulfillment: every physical item in the order must be delivered, and local delivery can't be mixed with shipping or pickup in one order. Gift cards and digital items can be added. Delivery must be within the same country as the location.
- Requirements: POS Pro, Shopify POS version 11.16 or later, and local delivery set up for the location in the Shopify admin.
