Identify more in-store customers with POS
By Steven Van ·
Shopify POS v11.17 links digital-receipt purchases to customer profiles for shoppers known from other Shopify Payments stores.
Shopify POS can now recognize eligible in-store shoppers who have previously checked out at a store powered by Shopify Payments, without staff asking for contact details at the register. Shopify describes that network as hundreds of millions of buyers, and the change is covered in its changelog entry.
How it works
When a buyer chooses a digital receipt, sent to the Shop app, by email or by text, the purchase is connected to a customer profile and saved to the merchant's customer list. Buyers can pick a digital receipt and share their details with the merchant in one tap.
Shopify says a larger customer list gives merchants a foundation to market to those customers (if they have opted in to marketing), personalize their experience and give them a reason to return.
Requirements
- Version 11.17 of the POS app.
- Shopify Payments for POS, with Shopify Network Intelligence enabled in the settings in admin.
- If there is a buyer-facing display, Customer View must be running v11.17 or later. No other action is required.
- If there is no buyer-facing display, customer receipt selection must be enabled in the Shopify admin.
