Enhanced printed receipt editor
We've updated printed receipts in Shopify POS so you can manage sale, return, exchange, gift, and gift card receipts in one place.
Shopify has rebuilt the printed receipt editor in POS, moving sale, return, exchange, gift, and gift card receipts into one place. Return and exchange receipts now print as a single section with one amount summary at the bottom, instead of two sections with separate subtotals.
- The new content editor applies branding, header, and footer across every receipt type, with the option to override by location, plus built-in fields for return policy, signature line, and regional tax IDs (VAT, GST/QST, ABN).
- Gift receipts no longer show line items, so multiple can be printed at once, and merchants can choose whether gift card receipts print automatically.
- Everyday changes that previously needed the Liquid editor can now be made directly in the new editor, with a real-time preview.
Shops with customized Liquid receipt templates can preview and configure the new template while the existing Liquid template keeps printing, then flip a shop-level switch to make the new format live. That switch is irreversible. Shops still on Liquid by January 1, 2027 will be migrated to the new format automatically. See the original announcement for the overview video.
