Design a fully bespoke store with Canvas
By Steven Van ·
Canvas lets Shopify merchants edit a whole store on one workspace, by hand or with Sidekick, but lacks app blocks, translations and Markets at launch.
Shopify has added Canvas, a design surface that lays out every page of an online store together in one interactive, infinite workspace. The aim is to see how the whole store feels and work on any part of it in context, per the announcement.
- Pan across every page of the store and zoom in on any detail.
- Click any element to edit it directly, or tell Sidekick what you want in the chat.
- Sidekick's changes appear in real time, from a single section to a store-wide redesign.
- Preview the real, working store, including interactions, animations, and different products, collections, and screen sizes.
Canvas is rolling out to existing stores over the coming days. In Online Store > Themes, you can create a new theme in Canvas, or duplicate a Shopify theme or custom theme in Canvas. The original theme stays in the current theme editor.
There are limits at launch. Canvas doesn't support third-party themes from the Shopify Theme Store, Markets, rollouts, translations, or app blocks and app embeds. Themes edited in Canvas don't receive theme updates.
