OpenRouter is Joining Stripe

Today, we are excited to announce that we are joining forces with Stripe, to power the next wave of GDP growth globally.
OpenRouter is being acquired by Stripe, the two companies announced on 19 August 2026. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the coming weeks.
OpenRouter says nothing changes for people building on it: same name, same product, same roadmap, and no change to existing integrations. Routing decisions will continue to be driven by what's best for the user, not by any single model, provider, or now parent company. The company currently processes over 10 trillion tokens a day across more than 400 AI models, for a community of over 10 million developers, and describes itself as a 90-person startup.
