Obsidian Sync has received a minor security upgrade.
Obsidian has strengthened the encryption used to protect file names in Sync. File paths and hashes were previously encrypted with an initialization vector derived from a hash of the string, which in rare cases could produce a pattern an attacker might exploit if they got access to the encrypted data. They're now encrypted with AES-SIV instead, which removes that possibility. File contents are unaffected and remain secured with AES-GCM, as before.
New vaults use the stronger encryption automatically. Existing vaults can be upgraded using the migration assistant added in Obsidian 1.9.11. Full details are in the original announcement.
