Highlights Web viewer, a new core plugin, lets you open external links within Obsidian.
Obsidian 1.8 adds Web viewer, a new core plugin that opens external links inside the app instead of a browser, making it easier to read linked pages without leaving Obsidian to multitask on web research. It ships disabled by default and has to be turned on in settings.
The release also includes:
- A "Hide my changes" view option in Sync, for hiding your own file changes in a shared sync vault.
- File Explorer can now automatically reveal the active file.
- A "Download attachments for current file" command that downloads externally embedded images for a file and replaces the external links with internal embeds.
- An "Insert footnote" command, and footnote autocomplete now falls back to creating a new footnote if no match is found.
- A search filter in Tags view.
- An "Auto-scroll to current section" option in Outline.
