Obsidian 1.15.0 Desktop (Early access)
By Steven Van ·
The 1.15.0 early-access build swaps Mermaid for Pele, adds reorderable Bases filters, and brings new heading commands to URI and CLI.
Mermaid diagrams in Obsidian are now drawn by a new library called Pele, which replaces Mermaid itself. The change is in the 1.15.0 desktop early-access release, available to Catalyst members.
Diagrams and charts
Pele is compatible with Mermaid 12.1.0 syntax. Diagrams appear faster and use the colors and fonts of the current theme. They respond to the width of a note and can be zoomed and panned when scaled down.
Because Pele can't run code, diagrams are now shown without asking first. The Show Mermaid diagrams in notes setting has been removed.
Bases and URI/CLI
- Bases: filters can be reordered by dragging. A menu on each filter row adds filters or moves them between All views and This view.
- URI/CLI: new commands append or prepend content under a heading, with control over line breaks around the added content.
Editor and search improvements
- In Live Preview, moving the caret up or down keeps its position relative to list text, accounting for bullets, numbers and checkboxes.
- With Smart lists on, indenting, unindenting or moving a list item also moves the items nested under it. Pressing Enter at the end of an item with nested items adds a new first nested item, or a new item below it if the item is folded.
- Suggestions ignore diacritics, so "cafe" matches "café" in link suggestions, Quick switcher, Command palette and Bases search.
- Vim mode gains new commands and fixes, including g?, :put, search patterns in : ranges and Vim-style regexes with :set nopcre.
- Tooltips appear only when text is cut off. Dragged items animate into place when dropped.
- Bases search says when a result limit hides matches, for example "Showing 10 of 40", and formula fields can be resized up to the window width.
- Community plugins load faster at startup.
Fixes
- Renaming a file opened from outside the vault no longer closes its tab, and Quick switcher can create a note while such a file is open.
- Page previews and canvas cards of a heading no longer hide text when the section starts with a --- divider.
- Selecting bold, italic or highlighted text in Live Preview now includes both hidden marks.
- Bases filter values containing a double quote or backslash no longer save as broken filters, and toolbar menus no longer stay in place when the window is resized.
- On macOS, Quick Look previews no longer block keyboard navigation (requires the latest installer).
- Obsidian no longer reopens in a loop after quitting when it is the default app for a file type it can't open.
For developers
- Obsidian no longer includes Mermaid. loadMermaid() and window.mermaid now draw with Pele and support initialize(), render() and parse(), plus mermaidAPI.getConfig(), setConfig() and render(). The resulting SVG carries Pele's classes, not Mermaid's.
- New code can use window.pele once loadMermaid() resolves. Diagram elements use .pele-* classes, and new --mermaid-* CSS variables cover colors, corner radius and font weights.
- prepareFuzzySearch and prepareSimpleSearch now ignore accents on Latin and Greek letters.
- Closing formatting tokens in Live Preview get a cm-formatting-*-end class, such as cm-formatting-strong-end.
- The PIXI global now loads the first time a graph opens. loadPixi() loads it earlier.
