Obsidian's 1.11.0 desktop build, out now in early access, focuses on links and file safety. Internal links now update automatically when a note is moved or renamed, and Markdown links are supported in text and list properties.
- Renaming a file to include unsafe characters like '#' or ']' now only triggers a warning instead of blocking the rename, and importing files strips invalid characters from filenames automatically.
- Daily notes get a format picker with predefined options.
- A new Files & links → Default file to open setting replaces the old "open daily note on startup" option, with choices of last opened files, a new note, a specific note, or the daily note.
- Pasting a URL over selected text now turns the selection into a Markdown link using that URL.
- A "Copy path" submenu has been added to the file context menu, and macOS toggles and sliders now match native styling.
- A new "Keychain" settings section stores plugin secrets, ahead of a plugin API for it.
The release also fixes a bug where reference links incorrectly allowed spaces before the link definition, and a flicker that occurred when the properties list appeared or disappeared while navigating between notes. Full details are in the changelog.
