notion-download-skill returns markdown for Skills without files

By Steven Van ·

Skills with supporting files still return a signed archive URL that expires after one hour.

Skills without supporting files can now be retrieved directly as text through Notion MCP. The notion-download-skill response includes markdown containing the full SKILL.md text and its frontmatter, replacing the archive URL for these Skills.

Downloading supporting files

Call notion-download-skill with the Skill page’s id. For Skills with supporting files, the response still includes a signed url alongside id and version_id. Download and extract the tar.gz archive to access SKILL.md, supporting files and nested folders.

The URL expires after one hour. Calling the tool again provides a fresh URL; the content version stays the same unless the exported content changes.

Availability and use

Downloading does not run the Skill or its scripts. Continue using notion-fetch when only the page content is needed. The download tool is not available in eval mode or workspace-owned MCP connections.

The Notion Skills documentation explains the response formats and download workflow.
