Notion 3.8: Context for your agents

By Steven Van ·

Business and Enterprise users can connect ChatGPT Plus or Pro to cover AI usage in Notion without an added markup.

MCP-compatible agents can now read workspace context in Notion and update docs and task trackers. The Notion 3.8 release also adds connections to external tools, skill syncing, and controls for tracking changes and limiting access.

Connect agents and tools

External agents can use Notion as a shared source of context when teams switch tools. Admins can see who connected each AI tool, check when it was last used, and revoke an individual’s access without affecting other connections.

Notion Agent and Custom Agents can also connect to 150+ tools through MCP to draw on their data and take action. Examples include creating account briefs with HubSpot pipeline data, adding Stripe billing details to customer reviews, and bringing Cloudflare infrastructure details into postmortems.

Share skills across agents

The new Skills API loads skills from Notion into GitHub, supporting syncing across ChatGPT, Claude, and other agents. Teams with existing skills can ask their agent to recreate them in Notion through MCP, then maintain the library there.

Review changes and control access

Updated version history provides highlighted edits, detailed database changes, and attribution across pages and databases. Teams can review changes made by people and agents and restore prior versions.

Database column permissions let owners control which properties each person or agent can view or edit. This lets teams share records while restricting fields such as candidate compensation or sensitive customer data.

Use a ChatGPT subscription in Notion

Users on Notion’s Business and Enterprise plans can connect a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription to cover AI usage in Notion. After connecting the plan, they select a GPT model. Notion says it adds no markup.

Rebuilt synced databases

Synced databases have been rebuilt, starting with GitHub, Jira, and Salesforce. Notion says they are faster and more reliable, and each sync now shows a live health status. Teams can add properties, create views, and trigger automations as they would with other Notion databases.

Models, settings, and notifications

  • Seven models have been added, including GPT 6.1-Sol, GPT-6 Luna, Opus 5.5, and Sonnet 5.5.
  • Redesigned Connections settings support search, category browsing, connection details, and example workflow previews. Admins can allow only Notion-verified tools or specific tools they choose.
  • Microsoft Teams can receive Notion mentions, comments, and access requests, with replies and responses available within Teams.
