Comment-only connections can retrieve their own bot user
By Steven Van ·
Notion's Retrieve your token's bot user endpoint no longer returns a 403 for connections that have only comment capabilities.
Connections that only have comment capabilities can now call Retrieve your token's bot user (GET /v1/users/me) in the Notion API. Before this change, those calls returned a 403 restricted_resource error, so a comment-only connection had no direct way to look up its own bot ID.
Which connections can call it
The endpoint works for connections with any content, property, or comment capability. User information capabilities alone don't grant access. They only control what the owner fields in the user object show. To include the owner's email address, the connection needs user information with email addresses.
Personal access tokens
For personal access tokens, the endpoint returns the token's bot user. Its bot.owner.user is the user who created the token.
