Jitter bundles distortion, 3D flips and dithering into one effects panel

By Steven Van ·

The browser-based motion tool now applies shaders like fluted glass and dithering with a click instead of a node graph.

Jitter just made advanced visual effects a one-click affair. Announced on June 30 by @jittervideo, the browser-based motion design tool now ships a dedicated Effects and shaders panel — distortion, 3D flips, dithering, fluted glass, and more, all live today and applied without leaving the editor.

What's actually in the effects panel

The new drop spans the effects Jitter has been rolling out through 2026 and packages them behind a single click. Distortion covers organic, wave-like movement — building on the displacement shaders Jitter shipped in April, which use amplitude, offset, and repeat controls to bend elements across their initial and animated states. Alongside it sit 3D flips and rotations for card-style reveals, dithering for that retro, low-fidelity texture, and a fluted glass effect that turns any layer into a frosted, ridged backdrop. No plugins, no round-trips to After Effects.

Why click-to-apply changes the workflow

Effects like these usually mean node graphs, shader code, or a desktop compositor. Jitter's pitch has always been that motion design belongs in the browser and should take minutes, not an afternoon. Moving distortion and glass behind a preset click keeps that promise intact: you select a layer, pick an effect, and tune it with sliders instead of writing GLSL. For social clips, product demos, and UI motion, that collapses a specialist task into something a marketer or generalist designer can do on a deadline.

How it fits Jitter's 2026 run

This launch is the culmination of a steady cadence. Displacement shaders arrived in April, a glass effect followed in May, and the Animate with AI feature let users describe an effect — "add a dithering effect," "create a pixelated animation" — and have Jitter generate it in seconds. The Effects and shaders panel gathers those threads into one discoverable surface, so the capabilities that were scattered across templates and AI prompts now live in a consistent, browsable menu.

Getting started

Everything is live now in the Jitter editor on the web, and you can try the effects on a free project before committing to a paid tier. Because Jitter exports to MP4, GIF, and Lottie, an animation built with these shaders drops straight into a website, an app, or a social feed. If you have leaned on external tools for distortion or glass looks, this is a reason to keep the whole job inside one collaborative browser tab.
