Auto mode is now powered by Cursor Router. Cursor Router is our intelligent model router.
Auto mode in Cursor is now powered by Cursor Router, which classifies each request by task type and complexity and sends it to a frontier model or a price-efficient one depending on what the job needs.
Selecting Auto now offers three optimization modes:
- Intelligence: frontier quality, matching the most expensive and powerful models.
- Balance: strong quality, matching the frontier models most people daily drive.
- Cost: good quality, reaching the highest available intelligence while optimizing token spend.
Balance and Intelligence bill at the routed model's rate. Admins can enable the router per team or group, restrict which optimization modes members can use, set the default mode, and allow or block specific underlying models; the routed model is hidden by default but can be displayed. Cursor Router is available on desktop, web, iOS, CLI and the SDK, and is on by default for Teams plans, with Enterprise admins able to enable it from the dashboard.
