Claude Code 2.1.293

By Steven Van ·

Haiku 5.5 brings a 1M context window, while fixes address queued messages, context compaction and Chrome connections.

Haiku 5.5 is now available in Claude Code, alongside new controls for subagent scripts and mod tools. Version 2.1.293 also fixes issues with context compaction, queued messages and Chrome connections.

Haiku 5.5 and tool controls

Claude Haiku 5.5, identified as claude-haiku-5-5, is now the default Haiku model on the Anthropic API. It has a 1M context window, with pricing of $0.10/$0.50 per million tokens, or $0.50/$2.50 for prompts over 100K tokens.

  • The subagentStatusLine payload now includes agentType, allowing scripts to distinguish custom subagent types.
  • For mods, $.tool.register now accepts isDeferred. Setting it to false includes the tool’s schema in the prompt from the start instead of keeping it behind tool search.

Session and connection fixes

  • Fixed Claude sometimes misinterpreting its own actions across context compaction, causing it to retract or redo finished work.
  • Fixed an HTTP MCP memory leak that retained every sent request until the connection closed.
  • Fixed queued messages being lost when the left arrow moved a working session to the background. If a queued message cannot move, the session now stays put and explains why.
  • Fixed the left and right arrows in /model effort wrapping past the highest or lowest level, which could accidentally save Low as the model’s default effort.
  • Fixed /tui disconnecting Claude in Chrome for sessions started with --chrome, and ignoring --no-chrome.

The changes are listed in the 2.1.293 changelog.
