A competitive analysis template that tracks changes weekly
By Steven Van ·
Bearly's prompt template covers positioning, pricing, product, X sentiment and SEO, then reruns weekly as a Routine that flags only meaningful changes.
Bearly has published a competitive analysis prompt template and a way to turn it into a weekly Routine that reports only what changed. The template runs once as a normal chat prompt. The Routine then reruns the same instructions on a schedule and compares each run with the last, alerting only when something meaningful changed.
The template
The prompt is pasted into a chat with the brackets filled in: your company, three competitors and the market. For each competitor it asks for five things:
- Positioning: who they sell to and the one-line promise on their homepage.
- Pricing and packaging: plans, prices, the free tier and recent changes.
- Product: launches and notable features from the last 90 days, with dates.
- What customers say: recurring praise and complaints in public posts on X.
- Search: keywords they rank for that you don't, and their strongest pages.
It ends with a comparison table and three actions for the next 30 days. The prompt also asks Bearly to link every claim to its source and to say when it couldn't find something instead of guessing.
Each section relies on a different tool. Bearly searches the web and reads competitor pages for the first three, reads public X posts for the fourth, and pulls search data for the fifth. Starting the message with /seo makes sure it uses SEO Data. Attaching positioning notes or a recent sales deck lets the recommendations draw on what the company actually sells. To reuse the template, save it under Prompt Templates in the sidebar. Bearly can build a short form for the details that change each time.
Running it weekly
In Routines, a one-sentence description is turned into a draft by selecting Draft routine. Bearly's example was: "Every Monday at 8 AM, check what changed at our three competitors, Carrowby, Ostlane, and Pelligrew, over the past week: pricing, new features and launches, and what customers are saying about them on X. Give me a short table of changes and flag anything we should respond to." The three competitors are invented for the example.
How Routines work
- Each routine gets its own chat, and every run lands there marked unread. Results can also be emailed or texted.
- Routines can be created and edited anywhere, but they run in the Bearly desktop app, on the one device where they are installed, while the app is open.
- Schedules can be daily, weekdays, weekends, chosen days of the week, or a day of the month, at an exact time in your timezone.
- Up to 10 routines can be active, and runs must be at least 30 minutes apart.
- Results and delivery settings let each run see earlier runs, which is what makes "what changed since last time" possible. It is on by default for new routines.
- A Notification filter, for example "a competitor ships something new", sets the bar for notifying you. Runs that don't meet it produce no unread badge, email or text.
