What is Light Rails?

Light Rails is a free, browser-based generative pattern studio built by designer Dinesh Subramani. A WebGL canvas renders light-trail patterns from 38 shape families, from perspective fans, spirals and concentric rings to petal bursts, glass planes, ASCII rain and typed-digit contours, each driven by sliders for flow, line count, warp, flare, ribs, grain, bloom and dwell time. Colour orbs and named templates such as comb-fan, pinwheel and cosmos set the palette, and a UI overlay wraps the running pattern into editable brand mockup cards for a reel.

Work can be saved as a PNG still, a JSON settings file, a WebM or MP4 clip recorded off the canvas, or a short GIF, with undo, redo and history built in.

FAQs

Common questions about Light Rails

What can I export from Light Rails?
The Export menu offers a PNG still, a JSON file of the current settings, a WebM or MP4 clip recorded straight from the canvas, and a 3-second GIF. MP4 depends on the browser having an H.264 encoder.
Is Light Rails free to use?
Yes. The studio runs in the browser with no sign-up or pricing. The maker accepts optional support through PayPal or UPI from the Roadmap panel.
