X Numbers Let Anyone Reach You in Chat
By Steven Van ·
Sharing an X Number lets a chosen contact message or call you in Chat without following each other or sending a request.
X is testing a new way to reach people who do not follow you back. An X Number is an optional, shareable identifier that lets someone message or call you in Chat once you have given it to them, without either side sending a follow or a message request.
The feature is aimed at contacts you want to hear from but have not connected with on the platform: sharing your X Number is a deliberate opt-in step, separate from your regular X profile and follow graph.
