Vercel collaborates with OpenAI for GPT-5 launch
By Steven Van ·
Vercel says GPT-5 outperforms prior models at frontend design and is now live in AI Gateway and v0.dev.
GPT-5 is now available through Vercel's AI Gateway and in production on v0.dev. Vercel tested the models for several weeks in v0, Next.js, AI SDK, and Vercel Sandbox ahead of OpenAI's launch, and says GPT-5 is noticeably better at frontend design than previous models, producing polished, balanced UIs with clean, composable code. Vercel has also started using it internally to power its in-dashboard Agent and v0.dev/gpt-5, citing its long-context reasoning and its handling of multiple tools in parallel. The smaller mini and nano variants are already in use for Vercel's speed-sensitive codegen workloads.
- A GPT-5 Playground in AI Gateway lets anyone test the model, along with gpt-oss-20b and gpt-oss-120b, for free through a chat interface, then copy the model string into AI SDK.
- Vercel open-sourced a new Vibe Coding Platform, a prompt-to-live-preview app builder running on Vercel AI Cloud (AI SDK, AI Gateway, Vercel Functions, Sandbox, and BotID) that developers can clone and customise.
