Trigger GitHub Actions with enriched deployment data from Vercel

By Steven Van ·

Vercel now sends custom JSON payloads with full deployment context to GitHub, and recommends moving off deployment_status events.

Vercel can now trigger GitHub Actions workflows through repository_dispatch events that carry full deployment context. Vercel sends these events to GitHub as custom JSON payloads, so a workflow can respond to deployment events without extra parsing.

Vercel previously recommended deployment_status events. Their payloads were limited, and working out what had changed took extra parsing or investigation. The new events are meant to reduce GitHub Actions overhead, make CI more cost-efficient and simplify end-to-end testing of Vercel deployments.

Vercel recommends migrating to repository_dispatch. deployment_status events will keep working for backwards compatibility.
