Streamdown v2: Smaller bundle size and new Remend options

By Steven Van ·

The plugin-based rewrite also adds a streaming cursor indicator and per-element control over how much markdown healing Remend performs.

Vercel's Streamdown, a drop-in replacement for react-markdown built for AI-powered streaming, has shipped Streamdown v2, built around a plugin-based architecture.

  • Bundle size, the most requested change since launch, is now much smaller. Code blocks, Mermaid diagrams, math rendering and CJK support move out into separate packages that you import and pass in as plugins, rather than shipping by default.
  • Streamdown now shows a built-in caret at the end of streaming content, a blinking-cursor-style indicator that text is still being generated.
  • Remend, the markdown-healing library underneath Streamdown, is now configurable through a remend prop that turns healing on or off per element: links, images, bold, italic, bold-italic, inline code, strikethrough, KaTeX blocks and setext headings.
