Streamdown 2.2 - animated streaming and better support for custom HTML
By Steven Van ·
The update also adds ReactMarkdown compatibility, drops CommonJS builds, and fixes rendering across tables, code, LaTeX and Mermaid diagrams.
Vercel's Streamdown library reaches version 2.2, adding animated per-word text streaming and making it easier to adopt in existing projects.
- A new animated prop, combined with importing the Streamdown stylesheet, renders streaming content with smooth per-word animation, aimed at AI chat interfaces and other real-time text applications.
- The components prop now accepts custom HTML attributes by adding elements to allowedTags, and the Remend engine strips incomplete HTML tags during streaming to prevent visual glitches from partial markup.
- Streamdown now supports the remaining ReactMarkdown props, so projects using ReactMarkdown can switch to Streamdown as a one-line replacement without refactoring component configuration.
- The release removes CommonJS builds, adds bundled-language aliases for common JavaScript, TypeScript and shell labels, and includes rendering and security fixes across tables, code blocks, LaTeX and Mermaid diagrams.
