Streamdown 1.6 is now available to run faster and ship less code
By Steven Van ·
Streamdown 1.6 adds lazy-loaded components, a custom markdown renderer, a static rendering mode, and Mermaid diagram export.
Vercel's Streamdown 1.6 is out, with memoization, LRU caching, optimized string operations, and the removal of regexes making the markdown rendering library run faster and ship less code.
- Code Blocks, Mermaid, and Math components are now lazy-loaded with React.lazy() and Suspense, so they only load when used.
- Code highlighting has been rebuilt with a new, simpler tokenization approach that now includes line numbers.
- A custom markdown renderer replaces React Markdown, giving Streamdown a lighter core.
- A new Static Mode renders markdown without streaming, for blogs and other static use cases, reducing streaming overhead.
- Mermaid blocks support custom error components for handling parsing issues, and diagrams can now be exported as SVG, PNG, or source code, with a fullscreen view that adds zoom and pan controls.
Developers can update with npm i streamdown@latest.
