StepFun's model accepts text and images in a 1M-token context window for coding, knowledge work, and financial analysis.
Text and image input with a 1M-token context window are supported by Step 5 Preview, StepFun's flagship model, now available through Vercel AI Gateway. The model is built for agentic coding, professional knowledge work, and financial analysis.
Code, documents, and images in one request
The context window can accommodate large codebases, stacks of documents, screenshots, and charts in a single request. The announced uses range from building apps and debugging code to research and analytical reports.
Connect a coding agent
API requests use the model name stepfun/step-5-preview. For coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, install the latest Vercel CLI with npm i -g vercel@latest, then run vercel ai-gateway setup and select stepfun/step-5-preview in the agent.
The setup command detects installed agents, provisions or reuses an API key, and shows planned configuration changes before writing them. Cursor users receive the values needed to finish configuration in its account-synced settings. The coding agents guide covers the setup workflow.
