Python on Vercel is now generally available

By Steven Van ·

Python apps built on FastAPI, Flask, Django or any ASGI or WSGI framework deploy with zero configuration on Fluid compute, with migration guides from Heroku, Render and Railway.

Python on Vercel is now generally available, ten months after the company set out to make the platform a place to build and run Python applications. The announcement points to a new Python section of the Knowledge Base covering deployment, migration and related guides.

Deployment and runtime

Vercel reads a project's dependency files, including those managed by uv, and detects frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, Django and FastHTML. Framework-defined infrastructure configures builds and request routing, with framework-specific support for serving static assets through the CDN. Any ASGI or WSGI app can run on Vercel Functions with zero configuration. Applications run on Fluid compute, which manages concurrent requests and scales with traffic. The runtime uses CPython on Linux, to stay compatible with existing Python packages and tools.

SDKs

Python SDKs for storage, queues, durable workflows and AI models use type annotations, async/await and context managers.

Full-stack projects

Vercel Services puts a Python backend and a frontend in one project. Running vercel dev starts both locally, and shared previews let backend changes be tested with the frontend that uses them. Both parts share a workflow for local development, preview deployments and production releases, and can be released or rolled back together. For long-running workers that pull jobs from queues or databases, Vercel Daemons keeps containers running.

Guides

  • Deploying a FastAPI or Flask app, with starter templates for each
  • Deploying a Python backend with a Next.js frontend using Vercel Services
  • Using Vercel Passport with Node.js and Python backends, with a FastAPI example
  • Migrating a FastAPI, Flask or Django API from Heroku, Render or Railway to Vercel Functions
