Open source Workflow Development Kit is now in public beta

By Steven Van ·

Vercel's open source Workflow Development Kit adds durable "use workflow" functions with automatic retries, sleep, and built-in observability.

Vercel's Workflow Development Kit, a framework for building durable, long-running processes, is now in public beta as an open source project. Adding a "use workflow" directive to an async function makes it durable, without wiring up queues, schedulers, or YAML by hand.

  • Steps marked with "use step" retry automatically.
  • Calling sleep pauses a workflow without holding compute, resuming in place later.
  • Every run gets traces, logs, and metrics, with the ability to pause, replay, and time travel while debugging.
  • Workflows can be developed locally and deployed to Vercel or any other cloud.

Full details are in the announcement.
