npm i flags

By Steven Van ·

Anyone on @vercel/flags should update to version 3.1.1 and switch their imports and package.json to the new flags package.

The Flags SDK, Vercel's open source library for feature flags in Next.js and SvelteKit, is now published under the package name flags. The announcement says the new name reflects the package's independence from any specific entity or platform.

Anyone using @vercel/flags should update to version 3.1.1 and switch their imports and package.json to flags. Vercel has also redesigned the documentation and examples.

The SDK takes a framework-first approach, aiming to avoid client-side flag evaluation and eliminate layout shifts. Vercel says each provider has so far built its own approach to flags in frameworks like Next.js, which led to duplicated effort and drifting implementations. It is working on adapters with Statsig, Optimizely and LaunchDarkly.
