By Steven Van ·
Projects still on Node.js 18 will fail new deployments after September 1, 2025, though existing deployments keep running.
Vercel is deprecating Node.js 18 for Builds and Functions on September 1, 2025, following the runtime's end of life on April 30, 2025. The announcement covers what changes for Vercel projects and how to move off it.
- Existing deployments with Serverless Functions are not affected.
- On September 1, 2025, Node.js 18 will be disabled in project settings. Existing projects that use 18 for Functions will show an error when a new deployment is created.
- The Node.js version can be set in project settings or through the engines field in package.json.
- To see which projects are affected, install the latest CLI with npm i -g vercel@latest and run vercel project ls --update-required.
