Nano Banana 2 is live on AI Gateway

Gemini 3.1 Flash Image Preview adds image search grounding, configurable thinking levels, and new aspect ratios.
Vercel's AI Gateway now supports Gemini 3.1 Flash Image Preview, known as Nano Banana 2. The model improves visual quality over its predecessor while keeping the generation speed and cost of flash-tier models.
- It can use Google Image Search to ground outputs in real-world imagery, which helps when rendering lesser-known landmarks and objects.
- Two configurable thinking levels, Minimal and High, let the model reason through complex prompts before rendering.
- New resolutions and aspect ratios, including 512p, 1:4, and 1:8, are available alongside the existing options.
To use it, set the model to google/gemini-3.1-flash-image-preview in the AI SDK. As a multimodal model, it works with streamText or generateText to produce images alongside text responses. Read the announcement for details.
