Developers can generate and edit images through the AI SDK or AI CLI with one API key and no provider account.

Microsoft's two image models are available through Vercel AI Gateway, letting developers generate and edit images through the AI SDK or AI CLI with one API key and no provider account.

Generate images and make targeted edits

Both models support photorealistic imagery, text rendering, and targeted edits to products, portraits, and layouts, with output sizes up to 1536 × 1536. MAI-Image-2.6 can also update text, clean up artifacts such as motion blur, and preserve visual consistency across editing iterations.

In the AI SDK, call generateImage with a text prompt to create an image. To edit an existing image, pass it as input alongside an instruction describing the change. The MAI-Image-2.6 playground also accepts up to five reference images.

Choose quality or faster iteration

Use microsoft/mai-image-2.6 for final assets when image quality matters more than speed. Use microsoft/mai-image-2.6-flash for faster generation at a lower cost, such as exploring prompts or generating variations. The MAI-Image-2.6 model page includes a playground for trying prompts and reference images.
