ISR on Vercel is now faster and more cost-efficient

By Steven Van ·

Regionalized caching cuts ISR latency by up to 80% and compression cuts ISR spend by up to 65%, on all Vercel plans after a redeploy.

ISR cache updates on Vercel are faster and cheaper, according to the company's announcement. The changes apply automatically to all Vercel customers, and a redeploy picks them up with no configuration changes.

  • Regionalized caching: ISR cache entries are now stored in the same region as your functions. Vercel says this improves TTFB by up to 80% when a cache read happens within the same geographic area, with the biggest gains for users outside the United States.
  • Automatic compression: ISR cache entries are now compressed, which reduces ISR write units, ISR read units and Fast Origin Transfer costs. Vercel puts the saving at up to 65% of ISR spend.

ISR lets a site update individual pages without a full rebuild. The announcement mentions Partial Prerendering (PPR) as another way Vercel is working on hybrid rendering.
