Introducing Vercel for Platforms
By Steven Van ·
Vercel for Platforms adds Multi-Tenant and Multi-Project modes, plus a new Platform Elements block library, for hosting customer apps.
Vercel has introduced Vercel for Platforms, letting developers build hosted products that create, deploy, and operate web applications on behalf of customers or teams. It ships in two modes.
- Multi-Tenant Platforms: a single codebase serves many customers, with wildcard domains (*.yourapp.com) and automatic routing and SSL, custom domain support via SDK including DNS verification and certificate management, routing middleware for hostname parsing and customer resolution at the edge, and a single deployment model where one deploy applies to all tenants.
- Multi-Project Platforms: a separate Vercel project per customer, with programmatic project creation via the Vercel SDK, isolation of builds, functions, environment variables, and settings per customer, and support for different frameworks per project.
Vercel also introduced Platform Elements, a library of open source, customizable blocks for building on platforms. Documentation and quickstarts are available for both the Multi-Tenant and Multi-Project modes. The announcement notes the platform registry is in beta.
