How KIKO Milano scales for Black Friday
By Steven Van ·
KIKO Milano swapped weeks of manual AWS scaling for automatic infrastructure and now deploys to its ecommerce site multiple times a day.
Before Black Friday, KIKO Milano's ecommerce team spent two to three weeks manually scaling AWS EC2 capacity and adjusting application configuration, then unwound it all once the traffic spike passed. Chat channels and conference rooms were set up in advance to triage the site slowdowns or outages that could hit at any point. After moving to Vercel, that prep work disappeared: environments scale automatically during traffic spikes, and the team no longer plans around infrastructure limits.
- Eliminated the 2-3 week manual scaling window before Black Friday
- Cut app build times by 75%
- Went from minimal releases to deploying multiple times a day
Antonino Samperi, KIKO's Digital Solutions Specialist, described the change: "Before we had to limit the number of releases as much as possible, but on Vercel we have the ability deploy multiple times a day if we want," according to the case study.
