How Avalara turns pipe dreams into patent-pending with v0

By Steven Van ·

Avalara's product chief used v0 to build two patent-pending products in about 60 days, replacing PRD-to-Figma handoffs with live prototyping.

Avalara connects businesses to more than 1,400 systems to automate tax compliance, and it says Vercel's v0 turned an idea into a working demo overnight. In a case study, Chief Strategy and Product Officer Jayme Fishman describes pitching a Chrome extension concept to a teammate one evening and finding a working video demo in his Slack the next morning.

That demo became the basis for a patent application, a production build, and a press release, all within about 60 days. Avalara's product process also changed: product leads now build directly in v0 instead of writing PRDs that designers turn into Figma files for engineers to rebuild. Across the company, prototypes have replaced concepts, and the team has shipped two patent-pending products so far.
