FLUX 3 Image now available on AI Gateway
By Steven Van ·
Developers can generate and edit images with up to ten references using one API key, without a Black Forest Labs account.
Text prompts and existing images can use the same Black Forest Labs model through Vercel AI Gateway, with one API key and no Black Forest Labs account required.
Reference images and resolution
FLUX 3 Image supports up to ten reference images for editing, combining subjects, or changing composition. It offers five resolution tiers from 768 × 768 to 4K, with square, portrait, and landscape aspect ratios.
Generate and edit with the AI SDK
To get started, set AI_GATEWAY_API_KEY and use bfl/flux-3-image as the model ID in AI SDK 7 or later. Call generateImage with a text prompt to create an image. To edit one, pass it in prompt.images alongside an instruction describing the change.
The release note demonstrates generating a square, 1K image of a blue ceramic vase, then changing the vase to terracotta while keeping the flowers and setting.
Terminal access
FLUX 3 Image also works through AI CLI with the same API key and model ID. The terminal command accepts a prompt and an output directory to generate and save an image. Vercel’s image generation guide covers the AI SDK workflow.
