Filesystem snapshots supported on Vercel Sandboxes

By Steven Van ·

Vercel Sandbox can snapshot a filesystem and launch new Sandboxes from it, skipping repeated dependency installs and builds.

Vercel Sandboxes can now save their filesystem state as a snapshot and use it to start new Sandboxes elsewhere, avoiding repeated setup for things like dependency installation, builds, or fixture creation.

  • Call sandbox.snapshot() on any running Sandbox to capture its complete filesystem.
  • Launch a new Sandbox from that state with source: { type: 'snapshot', snapshotId } via the Sandbox API.
  • Reuse the same snapshot across multiple Sandboxes for parallel testing and experimentation.

The idea is to build an environment once, snapshot it, then reuse that exact filesystem state across isolated runs. See the documentation for how to get started.
