Faster pnpm installs

By Steven Van ·

Vercel reuses dependency verification across deployments, with a 14% lower average install time on Pro and no setup on any plan.

pnpm installs on Vercel are faster, cutting the time spent installing dependencies before a build. The change is in a Vercel changelog entry for Vercel.

What changed

Vercel now reuses a successful dependency verification across deployments. For Pro deployments with a restored build cache, Vercel observed 14% lower average install times with the optimization enabled.

In the best case, when dependencies are unchanged and the previous verification can be reused, installs can complete in milliseconds.

What the logs show

The announcement compares two install logs. Before, the step reported "Lockfile passes supply-chain policies (461 entries in 2.5s)" and finished in 2.8s using pnpm v12.3.4. After, it reported "Lockfile passes supply-chain policies (verified 58s ago)" and finished in 135ms on the same pnpm version.

Availability

The improvement is available on all plans and applies automatically, with no configuration required.
