Deploy without an account using Vercel CLI
By Steven Van ·
Temporary deployments run on the tmp.now domain, expire after one hour, and can be claimed by signing in or creating an account.
Vercel CLI can now deploy a project without a Vercel account. From a project directory that isn't linked to Vercel, run vercel deploy --temporary to get a live URL you can share before signing in. Vercel's CLI documentation covers the command, and the change is part of Vercel.
How temporary deployments work
The CLI builds the project locally when needed and deploys the output. It then prints a deployment URL, a claim URL and the time left before the deployment expires. Temporary deployments always target production, so passing --target with any other value returns an error.
The option applies only when the CLI has no credentials. If you are already logged in, the CLI creates a normal deployment instead.
Single files
A single file can be deployed with vercel deploy --temporary prototype.html. A single-file temporary deployment supports only .html files. To deploy other kinds of files without logging in, run the command on a directory.
Expiry and claiming
- Temporary deployments use the dedicated tmp.now domain, separate from vercel.app.
- They expire after one hour unless claimed.
- To keep a project live, open the claim link in the CLI output and sign in or create an account. Vercel says to keep this link private.
