Claude Sonnet 5 now available on Vercel AI Gateway

Coding and agentic workloads on Vercel's AI Gateway can now run on Claude Sonnet 5. Anthropic says the model improves on Sonnet 4.6 across coding and agentic work, reaching outcomes on many tasks that previously needed an Opus model, at Sonnet pricing. It follows instructions more closely, is described as more agentic, and Anthropic reports stronger document parsing and long-context memory use. Like Anthropic's recent Opus models, Sonnet 5 uses an updated tokenizer, which can map the same input to more tokens than before.
Launch pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, running through August 31, 2026. The standard rate after that is $3/M input and $15/M output. To use the model, set it to anthropic/claude-sonnet-5 in the AI SDK with an AI Gateway API key, or try it in the model playground.
