360 billion tokens, 3 million customers, 6 engineers

Durable's six-person engineering team replaced self-hosted infrastructure with Vercel, cutting costs 3-4x while serving 3 million customers.
Durable, an AI business builder used by more than 3 million small businesses, has moved its entire stack onto Vercel, replacing the self-hosted infrastructure it used to run websites, CRMs and its multi-agent product. The company's AI features and agents now serve about 1.1 billion tokens a day, roughly 360 billion a year, and Durable says it can ship new production agents to customers within a single day.
Durable's CPTO Osama Khan described the migration as a single decisive move: the team wrapped the old product in an iframe, pushed it to Vercel, then removed the self-hosted infrastructure before rewriting the codebase with the help of coding agents. Khan said the resulting infrastructure costs 3-4x less than self-hosting. Founder James Clift said the change gives every engineer, product manager and designer roughly 10x the output, with the company's six engineers running the platform without a dedicated DevOps team.
According to the announcement, Durable now runs on:
- Next.js, Functions, Fluid Compute, Turborepo, Flags and Toolbar for building and running the app
- AI SDK, AI Gateway, Workflows and Skills for AI and agents
- CDN, Domains and Cron for edge delivery and multi-tenant routing
- Firewall, Bot Protection, BotID and Sandbox for security and abuse prevention
- Analytics, Speed Insights and OpenTelemetry for observability
