v0 adds a usage dashboard with per-message cost tracking
By Steven Van ·
New Settings page breaks down credit spend by day, member, and project, with drill-down to what each message cost.
v0, Vercel's AI app builder, just shipped a Usage & Activity Dashboard that finally answers the question every credit-based AI tool user asks: where did my credits actually go? The new dashboard, which lives under Settings, then Usage & Activity, tracks credit usage per day, breaks down activity by member or project, and lets you drill into any individual message to see its date, model, and cost. For solo builders it is a budgeting tool. For teams it is closer to an accountability layer for AI spend.
Per-day tracking and message-level cost drill-down
The headline capability is granularity. Daily charts show how your credit consumption trends over time, so a spike from a heavy prototyping session is visible instead of buried in a monthly total. From there you can drill all the way down to a single message and see exactly what it cost, which model handled it, and when it ran. That message-level view matters because v0's pricing is token-based: input tokens come from your prompts and uploaded content, output tokens come from what v0 generates, and different models carry different rates. Until now you could see your remaining balance, but connecting a specific conversation to a specific cost took guesswork. Now the receipt is itemized.
Team visibility by member and project
The second half of the dashboard is aimed at teams on Plus, Business, and Enterprise plans, where owners and members with the billing role can review team-wide credit and activity data. Slicing by member shows who is consuming the shared credit pool, and slicing by project shows which product bets are absorbing the AI budget. That is the kind of visibility engineering managers already expect from cloud spend tools like Vercel's own usage dashboards, and it removes a real blocker for companies rolling v0 out beyond a couple of enthusiasts. When someone asks whether the team plan is paying for itself, there is now a report to point at.
Why cost observability is the new battleground
Every serious AI coding tool has been converging on credit or token pricing this year, and the predictable side effect is bill anxiety. Users of tools across the category share stories of burning through a month of credits in a weekend without knowing which chats did the damage. Vercel already restructured v0's pricing around transparent token-based costs with credits that roll over for 65 days, and this dashboard is the logical next step: if you charge by the token, you owe users a way to audit by the token. Expect competitors like Lovable, Bolt, and Replit to keep pace, because spend transparency is quickly becoming a purchasing criterion, not a nice-to-have.
How to use it well
A few practical moves once you open Settings, then Usage & Activity. First, check which models your expensive messages used; heavier models cost more per token, and routine UI tweaks often do not need them. Second, watch for projects with runaway iteration loops, since long chats resend growing context and cost more per message over time. Starting a fresh chat for a new feature is cheaper than a hundred-message thread. Third, if you manage a team, set a habit of reviewing the member breakdown before credits reset rather than after they run out. The dashboard is live now for v0 users.
