How to Start a Faceless YouTube Channel With AI in 7 Steps
By Steven Van ·
Synthesys maps out a seven-step workflow and lists its faceless templates, alongside YouTube's monetization limits on templated AI content.
A Synthesys guide sets out seven steps for starting a faceless YouTube channel with AI: niche, topics, script, voice, visuals, assembly and an honest upload. It is written around YouTube's 2026 rules, which name "AI-generated content made with generic or unoriginal templates" as content the platform won't pay for.
What the guide says about YouTube's rules
Faceless channels can be monetized. The guide says YouTube's policy targets mass-produced template videos and channels whose videos feel interchangeable, and that realistic AI scenes should be disclosed. If a creator uses automated tools or templates, the final video "must still demonstrate your creative vision" and give viewers real value. Reviewers assess the channel as a whole, including its videos, titles and descriptions.
To apply for the YouTube Partner Program, a channel needs 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. Watch hours from the Shorts feed don't count toward the 4,000.
Formats and niches
- Length limits: Shorts run up to 3 minutes. Long-form is up to 15 minutes on an unverified account, and up to 12 hours or 256 GB on a verified one.
- Lower-risk niches: history, science, how-to, original fiction and explainers, where each video can carry its own explanation or story.
- Riskier niches: expert advice on money or health, readings of other people's articles, and clip compilations, which YouTube's policies treat strictly.
The guide also cites a June 2026 Hollywood Reporter report that YouTube has been demonetizing faceless channels in a crackdown on "AI slop".
