Release: Slack CLI v4.12.0

By Steven Van ·

Slack CLI 4.12.0 adds a built-in skill command for coding agents, an Enterprise install check, and fixes to manifests, GET requests and Python setup.

Coding agents can now read the Slack CLI skill straight from the CLI. Slack shipped Slack CLI v4.12.0 with a new slack skill command and a slack --skill flag. The output is the same slack-cli skill found in the Slack Skills Plugin, matched to the installed CLI version, and no plugin install is needed.

Enterprise install check

The slack install and slack run commands now stop before creating an app on an Enterprise organization if the app manifest does not set "org_deploy_enabled": true. The CLI explains how to fix it. Previously the app installed but never received events.

Fixes

  • slack app install and slack deploy no longer clear an app's Work Object embed settings (domain_allowlist, allow_same_origin, slug.hide_display_id) or drop rich_previews.is_active: false from its manifest.
  • slack api --method GET no longer form-encodes key=value arguments and --data into a request body. They are now sent as query parameters, with the token in the Authorization header. Requests without a body are also sent with Content-Length: 0 instead of an empty chunked body.
  • Python projects that list slack_cli_hooks, or another spelling of slack-cli-hooks, in requirements.txt or pyproject.toml no longer get a second slack-cli-hooks 1.0.0 dependency added by slack create and slack init.
