Screen Studio 4.0 sharpens zooms with a custom AI model
By Steven Van ·
Trained on screenshots from 5,000 generated SwiftUI apps, the new upscaler runs locally to improve enlarged macOS interface text.
Small interface text can become soft when a recording zooms in. Screen Studio 4.0 addresses that with its own AI upscaler, trained specifically on images of macOS interfaces. Founder Adam Pietrasiak shared a comparison of standard upscaling and the new model, along with how the team created its training data.
Trained on 5,000 generated apps
The team built a bot that generated 5,000 random SwiftUI apps. Those apps did not need to serve a real purpose: they needed to look like macOS software. The bot captured screenshots, then the team downscaled the images to create training material for the model.
The training pairs show the model what macOS interface details looked like before they lost resolution. This focuses the training on the kind of text, controls, and windows that appear in screen recordings.
Sharper text when a recording zooms in
The Screen Studio 4.0 release notes describe the feature as sharper zoomed text. That is useful when a software demo needs to enlarge a menu, label, or other small interface detail. The announcement includes a side-by-side comparison of standard upscaling and Screen Studio’s model.

The release notes confirm that the upscaler runs locally on the Mac. The feature is part of the Screen Studio 4.0 update and is designed around macOS screen recordings.
