Restream adds Slack as a live streaming destination
By Steven Van ·
Teams can now pipe town halls and demo days into a Slack channel, with chat syncing back to Restream's unified view.
Restream has added an unusual entry to its list of streaming destinations: Slack. Announced on August 6, the integration lets teams broadcast town halls, demo days, and company-wide announcements directly into Slack, so employees watch where they already spend their day instead of clicking out to a meeting link or a browser tab. Restream is hosting a live demo and Q&A on X on August 12 at 12 PM New York time to show it off.
Internal broadcasts without the meeting-link shuffle
The logic is simple. Company all-hands attendance dies at the join step: calendar invite, meeting link, waiting room, wrong account. Piping the stream into a Slack channel removes all of that. An announcement lands in the channel, the video plays right there, and the discussion happens in the same place in threads. Because Slack is a closed workspace, the audience stays internal by default, which is exactly what you want for a town hall or an unreleased product demo, and a real advantage over unlisted links on public platforms that can leak.
How the Slack destination fits into Restream's pipeline
Restream's whole pitch is one broadcast, many destinations, and Slack slots into that pipeline like any other endpoint alongside the 30+ platforms it already supports. According to Restream's help center, Slack can be selected as a destination when setting up a webinar-style broadcast: you connect a Slack channel and the stream goes out to that closed audience. That means a company could simultaneously send a launch event to YouTube and LinkedIn for the public while the internal channel watches the same feed natively in Slack, all from one production setup in Restream Studio or via RTMP from tools like OBS.
Chat that flows both ways
The integration is not just one-way video. Restream's documentation notes that messages can be exchanged between the connected Slack channel and Restream Chat, its unified cross-platform chat view. For a presenter running a town hall, that means questions typed by employees in Slack surface in the same moderation view as comments from any other destination, so a host can run Q&A without juggling windows.
Live demo on X, August 12
Restream will walk through the feature in a live demo with Q&A on its X account on Tuesday, August 12 at 12 PM Eastern. If your team runs recurring all-hands, demo days, or async-heavy internal comms, that session is the fastest way to see whether the Slack destination fits your setup before you rework your next town hall around it.
For creators and producers who get pulled into corporate streaming work, this is also a quietly useful line on the service menu. The production skills are identical to public streaming, but the buyer is an internal comms team, and "your employees watch it in Slack" is an easy sell.
