Free Mode

By Steven Van ·

Core and Pro subscribers can use Free Mode until their usage limits reset every 5 hours, and Core includes up to 30 hours of chat a month.

Replit has added Free Mode, an Agent mode powered by OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna. In this mode, everyday tasks such as chatting, ideating and running routine work no longer use credits.

What Free Mode covers

Replit says Core subscribers can create up to 30X more than before on Replit using Free Mode, along with up to 30 hours per month of chat, for the $20 monthly subscription. Core and Pro users can stay in Free Mode until they reach their usage limits, which reset every 5 hours. Pro users get higher limits than Core users.

Agent modes

If a task becomes more complex or higher-value, Replit Agent may suggest switching to one of two other modes.

  • Power Mode (formerly Economy Mode) uses cost-optimized models for everyday tasks. Replit says it gives the same or better performance than Economy Mode did, at the same cost.
  • Max Mode uses higher-performance models for larger changes, deeper reasoning and longer builds.

Redesigned interface

The announcement also describes a new UI that moves between simple chat, tasks and complex builds. Agent carries context from chat into building and across projects, so users can plan and explore an idea before starting a build in the same place. Quick answers, suggestions, feedback and analysis in Free Mode do not consume usage credits.
