API Platform: Model training in Data Controls

Owners and Admins can switch off training on inference data, which is on by default, while storage stays governed by separate settings and contracts.
The Data Controls page in the QuiverAI API Platform now has a Model training row where the Inference data row used to be. The row shows whether QuiverAI may train its models on an organization's inference inputs and outputs, according to the Data Controls documentation.
What the Improve QuiverAI setting does
The Improve QuiverAI setting now controls model training only. It is on by default, and new organizations start with it on. An organization Owner or Admin can turn it off, unless the organization is blocked. Once it is off, QuiverAI stops training on that organization's inference inputs and outputs.
Turning it off does not stop storage. Content is still stored as the organization's other data settings allow. Not storing customer content is never a self-serve choice and is set through a contract.
When contracts and overrides apply
- If an approved contract prohibits model training, the setting is turned off and cannot be turned on. That includes the period before the contract's start date. The restriction stays after the contract ends or is revoked, until QuiverAI support releases it.
- Under a contract that allows training, an Owner or Admin can turn the setting on.
- While a compliance override prohibits training, the setting cannot be turned on, including after it has been turned off.
- If a contract or override prohibits content storage, nothing is stored to train on. The Model training row shows "not used for training".
- If a contract, override or storage prohibition decides the outcome while the organization's choice is still on, the setting shows that choice with a note that it is not in effect. It can still be turned off.
Response header
The x-quiverai-inference-data-policy response header keeps its three values. QuiverAI now derives the value from the training and content storage settings:
- allow_storage_and_training: content is stored and used for training.
- allow_storage_for_benchmarks_only: content is stored but not used for training.
- forbid_storage: customer content is not stored.
The former x-quiver-* spellings of the four data posture headers are deprecated. They carry the same values until their planned removal on December 31, 2026.
